The aim of a cervical smear test (also known as cervical screening) is to prevent cervical cancer from developing. The cervical smear, also known as Papanicolaou or Pap smear, is the process of detecting abnormal potentially pre-cancerous cells and cancerous processes in the cervix, in order to prevent cervical cancer. During the screening appointment, a small sample of cells will be taken from your cervix. The cervix is the opening to your womb from your vagina. A private smear test with a private GP at Glasgow Medical Rooms takes just 30 minutes. You should receive the result of your private cervical smear test within 2-3 weeks. Please note that cervical smear tests are for women without symptoms. If you’re already concerned about any symptoms such as vaginal discharge or pain, bleeding between periods or after sex, contact us immediately.
